The iOS 17.4 update simplifies the process of keeping track of your iPhone's battery health.

Apple has rolled out the iOS 17.4 update for eligible iPhones, bringing a host of new features, including fresh emojis, enhancements to Apple Music and podcasts. While some notable features like app sideloading, third-party payment gateways, and setting third-party web browsers as defaults are primarily available in the European region, the update introduces a new battery-related feature for the iPhone 15 series, simplifying battery health monitoring for both iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro users.

Owners of iPhone 15 series devices can now easily monitor various aspects of their battery, such as charge cycle count, manufacturing, and activation dates. Additionally, they can access standard details like battery health and maximum capacity. Apple's official documentation confirms that the batteries in the iPhone 15 series offer extended longevity compared to previous generations.

Unlike older models designed to retain 80% charge capacity after 500 charge cycles, the batteries in the iPhone 15 series maintain the same capacity even after 1000 cycles, ensuring prolonged performance without requiring a battery replacement.

To check battery charge cycle on an iPhone 15 series device, users can navigate to Settings > Battery > Battery Health. From this menu, they can access information such as battery health, capacity, and manufacturing or first use date.

Over the years, particularly after the battery gate controversy, Apple has introduced several battery-related features for iPhones, including the option to limit battery charge to 80% to mitigate overcharging and optimized battery charging based on user routines to reduce battery aging.

Key iOS 17.4 features available in India include the addition of new emojis like mushroom, phoenix, lime, broken chain, and shaking heads. Users can now peel, resize, and stick any emoji into conversations or photos within the Messages and Gallery apps. Furthermore, Apple Podcasts now offer automatically generated transcriptions in multiple languages, along with the ability to tap on a specific part of the transcript to play from that point. Music recognition is also enhanced, allowing users to quickly add identified songs to their playlists via Apple Music. The update also strengthens stolen device protection and introduces a new Siri capability to announce messages in supported languages.

The iOS 17.4 update is compatible with 24 devices, starting from the iPhone XS. However, feature availability may vary depending on the model. Here is a comprehensive list of iPhones supporting the iOS 17.4 update:
