Ending years of speculation, actor Imran Khan has confirmed his divorce from Avantika Malik in a recent interview with Vogue India, revealing that they parted ways in 2019. Additionally, he openly acknowledged his relationship with Lekha Washington.
Imran confirmed the divorce, stating, “The speculation about my romantic involvement with Lekha Washington is accurate. I have been divorced and separated from Avantika since February 2019.”
Addressing criticisms directed at Lekha on social media, Imran expressed his frustration, labeling the accusations of her being a homewrecker as both misogynistic and undermining of his individual agency. He clarified, “Lekha and I grew close during the lockdown, a year and a half after my separation from Avantika and nearly a year after her separation from her partner, not husband as widely reported.”
Regarding Imran and Avantika's history, they were married in 2011 and share a daughter named Imara. Speculation surrounding their separation began circulating in 2019, although neither party commented on it until now. It was reported last year that Imran and Avantika had decided to part ways.
Avantika has previously hinted at personal struggles on social media, sharing posts about feeling 'stuck' and finding solace in 'darkest nights'. In 2020, she reposted a message about marriage and divorce, describing it as a ‘truth bomb’. Another post from her past mentioned the process of 'healing'.
Initially, when rumors of their separation surfaced in 2019, Avantika’s mother Vandana dismissed them, stating, “There are some differences, which will be sorted anyway.”
Recently, Imran and Lekha attended his cousin Ira Khan's wedding together, further solidifying their public acknowledgment of their relationship.
