Adipurush, the highly anticipated film starring Prabhas, is generating a lot of buzz ahead of its worldwide release on June 16. The movie, reportedly made with a budget of Rs 500 crore, has already made significant strides in terms of distribution rights, as per film trade analysts. People Media Factory acquired the distribution rights for the Telugu-speaking states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for approximately Rs 150 crore.
According to film tracker Ramesh Bala, the distribution rights for Adipurush in the Hindi belt and the rest of South India were sold for Rs 120 crore. In total, the film's distribution rights alone have amassed a business of Rs 270 crore. Although this is a record-breaking figure for a film in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the ambitious budget of the Om Raut directorial means it is still yet to break even.
However, if reports are to be believed, the film's OTT and satellite rights have been sold for a staggering amount of Rs 210 crore. Even after factoring in the revenue from satellite and OTT platforms, the movie still falls short by Rs 30 to 50 crore to break even, according to sources. Nevertheless, given the rapid pre-booking of tickets, industry insiders predict that Adipurush will turn profitable within a few days of its release.
Leading up to its premiere, many individuals, including Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor, have purchased tickets for Adipurush in bulk. Ranbir Kapoor booked 10,000 tickets to distribute to underprivileged children. Telugu star Manoj Manchu, along with his wife Bhuma Mounika, has also joined the initiative by purchasing 2500 tickets for the film, which they plan to distribute to children in Andhra Pradesh.
Adipurush is a reimagining of the Hindu epic Ramayana. The narrative follows Raghava's journey as he battles Ravana with the aid of Hanuman and the Vanara army to rescue his wife Janaki. Alongside Prabhas, the film features Kriti Sanon as Janaki, Sunny Singh as Hanuman, and Saif Ali Khan as Ravana. The music for the film, composed by Ajay and Atul, will accompany its release in multiple languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada.
